I’m currently studying music at Barclay College. I grew up in a pastor home and in a tradition of pastors and so my life has been found from place to place in different communities and different environments. Each, have taught me something new about myself and about the world. Hopefully through this blog I can share what I have learned and what I am continuing to learn through my daily life and hopefully that will inspire you in your life.
My passion is to be an influence to a generation of people and show the world God’s eyes through music and the greatness of God.
Enjoy.

Eliot Hinshaw

Who are You?

Tonight, a question has been popping into my head after watching the Denver Broncos get destroyed in a playoff game to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

“Who are you?”

You see, sports have always been a love in my life. The idea of competition, of feeling apart of something bigger than yourself and this urge to doing the impossible (even though I’m not physically on the field). After 15 years of sweating, shaking, screaming, and head banging, over something thats completely out of my control and accounted for limited happiness, I’m finally beginning to see a bigger picture here. The question still stands…

“Who are you?”

Many people have raved and downed Tim Tebow this year and he has quickly become a major icon in our society today. A lot of people praise him and a lot of people doubt him, but the one thing that I see in him is Jesus. NO…im not saying he “is” Jesus (like a lot of people believe) but I’m merely saying that I see Christ within him. Football is his career and he is probably more passionate than I ever will be about the game, but he “knows” who he is. At the end of the day, his walk with the Lord is way more important than any snap he takes on that football field. No, this blog is not about Tim Tebow, but it is about that one question…

“Who are you?”

At the end of the day I have to know who I am, because no matter what situation I go through in life I have to know what this life is lived for. How can I get so caught up in something that will mean absolutely nothing in the end? Tebow was asked the question after the loss tonight, “How do you praise God even in your loses?” He responded by saying that even in a loss, you can praise Him more. That the real blessing is spending time with people in need and those who need the Lord. That even though all the fame and attention can get tiring, he wouldn’t trade it for the world, because it gives him more opportunity to be the man God intended him to be. To build schools, to help the sick and the poor, to show someone God’s love, and ultimately, to show that there is way more to life than football.

So for me, how can I take my passions and show God’s love and compassion? I want to be slow to anger and quick to forgiveness and to be a better person no matter what the circumstance is. To not be selfish and to ultimately show the world who God truly is. There is work to be done.

“Who are you?”

I’ve been intrigued lately by the this word “Restore”. Meaning, to bring back something in good condition.

“Restoration” means act of renewing or reviving; state of being restored.

I feel like people long for this feeling. A feeling of a complete transformation in there life that coincides with everything they’ve experienced before. The feeling of being loved for who you are and not who society wants you to be. The feeling that all that pain in the past and present somehow doesn’t matter anymore. The feeling of rest and satisfaction. And a feeling of hope.

it amazes me when I look back at the beginning times of our existence. When God created us, He created us out of his own image. We had that special connection and when sin entered in, the connection was lost. Old Testament scriptures show the disconnect between humans and Christ and there only being certain ways to connect with Him. Once you begin to tap into the gospels, this is when restoration begins to take place.

This desperate need to experience God in a different way was finally accomplished through God’s humble and amazing sacrifice. The only way was to send his son to Earth to die. To show the what love truly is in a world that is full of hate. It allowed us to have a daily connection with the creator and know that we were redeemed. Our hearts, our souls, our minds are restored from sin. Although our struggles remain and sin try’s to unleash itself into lives, one thing remains the same. And that is Jesus Christ. All of our hope is found in Him and hope cannot be found in earthly things, but in the heavenly father alone.

I am restored…

By his power, his grace, mercy, forgiveness, majesty, peace, love, compassion…

I am restored…

God is drawing us to Him, He is always calling, always creating opportunities for us to witness his majesty. Are you watching? Through all your pain and all your suffering, can you see the hope Christ offers? We must worship Him in the good and bad times.

We are restored…

Worry

I am at a point in my life where it seems that every decision I make, is going to dramatically affect my future. There is so much “worry” in my life and it consumes you. “worry” can cause you to be someone you’re not and cause you to forget who is in control.

You see, too many times I feel that I have everything under my control. Life can sometimes seem too easy and then everything catches up to you at once. Now, something that once was easy to handle, turns into something that you have no control over. Why do we as humans make this common mistake?

Matthew 6:34 says,

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

I think we forget the things that we’ve been blessed with in life. We get caught up in our own futures. Planning what each step is and where we want

to GO…

   to DO…

      and LIVE…

God created the birds in the sky and the animals of the fields and He always makes sure they find food to eat and places to live. Doesn’t He care more about us than these? So, why should I dwell so much on a future that the Lord already has mapped out for me. Yes it is important to be prepared, but God has perfect timing.

So worry no more, for the Lord is always looking after his creation. We are his creation, so let Him lead you and guide you today. Let Him be concerned for tomorrow and try to live your life as worship, giving all you have to Jesus.
